Bio
I am many things, among them a science communicator, a musician, a runner, an artist, a web designer, a writer, a network administrator, a rock climber, and perhaps most importantly: a nerd and a dork. I have an extensive background in tech, but I'm currently working on making science communication my full-time job. I want to learn about the amazing world around me and share that enthusiasm and knowledge to anyone who will listen.
Tech
As a young adult, Ben got heavily into Linux and self-hosting. They currently maintain a variety of self-hosted services including file storage with Nextcloud and password management with Bitwarden. And yes, of course, this site is hosted on one of their own servers.
Professionally, Ben worked as a network administrator for 3 years before deciding to change careers. In that time they worked with a variety of equipment (Cisco switches, routers and firewalls; Palo Alto firewalls; VMware load balancers; Cradlepoint LTE/5G routers) and was responsible for both project work (including small- and large-scale network redesigns) and operational work (software upgrades, failed hardware replacement, fielding firewall requests).

Science Communication
Upon leaving the tech sector, Ben became a science communicator. They are in the process of volunteering at the Tennessee Aquarium, and their main project is BeanStem, a project focused on making fun educational content about STEM topics aimed at adults.
